If you want to be part of a team committed to making a difference, Central and South Sussex Citizens Advice is looking for a confident and flexible individual to join the Macmillan Team and provide a high quality, effective and efficient financial support, advice and information service for people affected by cancer.

The Charity

Central and South Sussex Citizens Advice (CASSCA) is a registered charity and part of the national Citizens Advice Network. We operate with the twin aims of the Citizens Advice service; providing advice people need for the problems they face and working to improve the policies and practices that affect people’s lives.  The service we provide is free, independent, confidential and impartial advice to everyone on their rights and responsibilities.  We value diversity, promote equality and challenge discrimination.

CASSCA delivers a range of advice services, funded by local and national contracts. It works in partnership with a range of stakeholders (including the local authority, Macmillan, Shelter, the Probation Service and various Housing Associations)

Benefits:

  • 23 days’ annual holiday (+ bank holidays)
  • Company Sick Pay
  • Company pension scheme
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Flexible employer sensitive to the needs of today’s workforce
  • Commitment to continued professional development
  • Working for a locally focused charity dedicated to assisting and empowering the community, and helping influence changes to government policy

The Role

  • To interview clients, both face-to-face and on the telephone, providing appropriate welfare advice and information, exploring options and implications to help clients set priorities and make decisions.
  • To undertake casework on clients’ behalf, write letters, negotiate with third parties, make and accept referrals and to arrange tribunal representation.
  • To liaise with statutory and voluntary organisations such as Department of Work and Pensions, Social Services, and community organisations as appropriate and to keep in touch with local issues, changes in local policies and services.

The Candidate

  • An emotionally intelligent professional, looking to learn and develop, with a desire to encourage others to do the same
  • An understanding of the issues and sensitivities involved when dealing with clients living with cancer and their families and carers
  • A car user will be preferred due to the need to carry out home visits in rural areas and attend outreach locations across Sussex

Citizens Advice experience is not a requirement for this post although an understanding of the service is desirable.

Closing date: 9th December 2016
