About the Role

Meridian Community Primary School is an exciting and rewarding place to work and learn with high expectations and aspirations for all our children and their families.

We are looking for a new or experienced Learning Mentor to work across all three Key stages: EYFS, KS1 and KS2. You need to be someone who inspires progress, and is self motivated in working with children and families in challenging circumstances.  The role involves working with children in class, in small groups and 1:1, so an understanding and knowledge of Primary Education would be useful.  You will be working with children at risk of under achievement, with particular barriers of behaviour and attendance.  You will work with different staff to engage with strategies to overcome these barriers, including supporting behaviour at playtime and lunchtime.

You must have experience of interacting and meeting with parents and carers on a regular basis to problem-solve, listen and provide mechanisms of support.  There will be occasions where you will manage and lead meetings, where required.

Relevant knowledge and understanding of safeguarding in a school setting is an essential part of the role.

We can offer you:

- children that are enthusiastic and eager to learn - a strong, supportive and committed staff team - opportunities to develop your professional skills

Visits are welcomed and encouraged.

Additional Information

Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency’s Points-based Immigration System.

From 6 April 2011 the Home Office has placed a permanent restriction on the number of migrant workers that all Tier 2 (General) Sponsors can recruit. Due to the restrictions we cannot guarantee that individuals that meet the requirements of the Points-based Immigration System will be issued with clearance to obtain work permits. This authority is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All staff will be expected to hold or be willing to obtain Enhanced DBS check or Enhanced check for Regulated Activity with the Disclosure & Barring Services (previously the Criminal Records Bureau). All school based staff have the responsibility for promoting the safeguarding and welfare of children.  All school staff should be aware of the school’s Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy and work in accordance with this document at all times.

Equal Opportunities

East Sussex County Council is an equal opportunities employer. We welcome applications from all suitable candidates, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, disability or age. All applications are treated on merit.
