Transformation Directorate Benefit Assessor Scale 3/5 - 16,781 to 22,658 per annum Full Time – 37 hours per week Permanent

The Benefit Assessor role will involve working as part of a team assessing and managing claims for Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction. You will be required to handle confidential information and delicate situations, so you must be empathetic when dealing with customers. This is the ideal role for someone who is looking to start a career in a benefits environment within local government. You will work as part of our dynamic team and will have an integral part to play in bringing to life our commitment to put customers at the heart of everything we do. If you are a passionate ‘peoples person’ who thrives on providing an amazing customer experience with excellent communication skills, a good standard of computer literacy, and feel you have the ambition to work in a challenging and rewarding environment, we would like to hear from you. Essential skills and Experience To be successful within the Benefit Assessor role, you'll need to have a desire to learn, the ability to adapt to change, lots of empathy and the determination to go the extra mile for our customers every day. Resolving complex problems won't faze you, and you'll be able to build a good understanding of the service to ensure claims are processed, all the while acting within operational processes and procedures. You will also possess the following: • Flexible, motivated and a determined team player • Confident and resilient attitude • Ability to work under own initiative within a team based environment • Ability to retain knowledge effectively • Excellent phone manner with ability to listen actively and work under pressure • Good written communication skills • Driven, motivated and determined to achieve targets • IT literate • An understanding of the benefits system would be an advantage but a good attitude, a desire to learn and a positive outlook are more important.
