About the Role

Cuckmere House School is an Outstanding, High Performing Specialist School for pupils aged 5-16 with Social, Emotional And Mental Health needs (SEMH). All pupils attending the school have an Education, Health & Care Plan (EHCP) or Statement of Educational Needs in place.

We are looking to appoint an Assistant Childcare Officer to work as part of a strong Care Team who enable our pupils to access Tower House which is our residential provision.  The successful candidate will have some experience of working with and positively engaging young people.  You will be aware of the needs of young men who may be disengaged with all aspects of school life and you will be confident about being a positive role model for them.  You will be enthusiastic, flexible and resilient in your working practice to ensure the best possible outcomes for our young people.

The successful candidate will be a team player and will value the importance of setting high standards for young people, whilst also being able to secure meaningful and professional relationships.

Pupils accessing Tower House engage in a wide range of activities aimed at encouraging healthy lifestyles and routines.  We make great use of our local environment including the coast and South Downs as well as community sports facilities.

The care and well-being of our pupils is paramount and you will have a thorough understanding of Safeguarding and Childcare protocols.

There will be sleeping in duties (for which there is an additional allowance of approximately 1,500 p/a) on a rota basis.

The school will need to ensure that they are not knowingly employing a person who is disqualified under the 2009 Regulations inconnection with relevant childcare provision.  Accordingly, the successful candidate will be required to demonstrate to the school, bycompleting a self-declaration form as part of the pre-employment checks process, that they have not been disqualified under the 2009 Regulations.

If the preferred candidate is found to be disqualified under the 2009 Regulations, the offer of employment will be subject to the application by the preferred candidate to Ofsted for a waiver and the receipt of a waiver from Ofsted.
