The Pines Day Centre is a day service supporting Adults with Learning Difficulties in Worthing, where the key aim is to support people with high levels of dependency or complex needs and enable every customer to be engaged in their local community to the best of their ability. For some customers this could be through a time-limited programme of targeted support to build confidence and help develop skills for independent living.

You will encourage and stimulate customers through the provision of outcome based care. This promotes independence, community engagement and enables them to develop and/or maintain daily living skills. With basic communication and interpersonal skills you will attend to customer’s physical, social, mental and emotional needs, ensuring comfort, safety and wellbeing. You will uphold excellent practice within the team and take daily responsibility for some areas of the day centre, such as the mobility suite, computer suite, activity rooms or training kitchen, and customer provider plans.

Using good communication and interpersonal skills you will provide clear and concise specialist advice and guidance to a range of customers. You will be able to work with customers who are less able to express themselves and have an understanding of non-verbal communication. Using your ability to interpret information, you will encourage customers to access, integrate and interact as members of the community, as well as supporting customers to access community based provision as per their provider plan.

You will need a basic understanding of the needs of the customer and their rights as an individual in order to build relationships with people from a wide variety of cultural, religious and ethnic backgrounds.

Although no experience is essential for this post, you will have demonstrable successful experience of working as part of a team and will desirably have an NVQ 2 in Care or equivalent qualification as well as knowledge of Health and Safety practice, First Aid and Fire procedure and Manual Handling.

A full clean driving license is desirable as there will be a requirement to access the community using WSCC transport therefore a D1 is required to drive the vehicles, full training will be given.
