May House is a purpose built three bed unit for young people with severe learning disabilities and challenging behaviour. They are also likely to be on the autistic spectrum. Young people will be referred to May house following risk of placement breakdown in the community. They typically stay at May house for up to 18 months, where the multidisciplinary team offer a comprehensive package of care and work intensively to enable the young person to return to other community resources and their families.
As a child care officer you will support young people to engage in a full range of activities, both in May house and in the community. You will assist colleagues to maintain a nurturing, positive and safe environment for the young people in our care. You will be alert to their needs and mindful of their safety. You will be required to work on a rota basis. You will also be required to work every alternate weekend. Sleeping in on call is an essential task.
You will be required to complete mandatory training appropriate to your role and also to undertake a Diploma level 3 award. This would not be required if you have a NVQ level 3 in Children and Young people or equivalent qualification. Experience of working with young people will be a distinct advantage. Awareness of disability issues is desirable. An ability to write reports and make daily notes is required. This is a career grade post and grade at appointment will be based on individual experience and qualifications.
