Alzheimer’s Society is the UK’s leading support and research charity for people with dementia, their families and carers. There will be 850,000 people with dementia in the UK by 2015 with numbers set to rise to over 1 million by 2025.

As a Dementia Support Worker you will have the rewarding opportunity to provide support and guidance to people with dementia and their carers; helping to maintain their independence, improving their sense of well-being, and putting them in more control of their lives. The service is unique to each service user as it is based upon their personal circumstances and support needs.

This Dementia Support Worker role is part of the established West Sussex Memory Assessment Service, and is based in Worthing. You will offer support and guidance in a variety of ways, whether in the client’s own home, at service offices or at other locations; face to face, by phone, letter or e-mail. You will also assist service users to access other services, providing signposting and referrals, as well as facilitating peer support groups and other group activities.

We are looking for an individual who possesses NVQ level 3 (or equivalent) with an understanding of dementia and the needs of those living with dementia. Your ability to assess client needs along with the understanding of the need for client confidentiality is essential to providing a valuable and worthwhile service. To be successful in this role you will have excellent non-judgmental communication skills as well as strong organisational and time management skills in order to manage your caseload of clients effectively. You must be willing and able to travel independently across West Sussex.

Are you someone who can work well as part of a team and are passionate about improving the quality of life for people living with dementia? Then take a first step and apply today.
